Moving checklist for French-speaking Switzerland

8 to 4 weeks before

• Cancel your lease by registered letter respecting the notice period (often 3 months — check your contract)
• Book your date with Mopper and, if needed, combine the move, end-of-lease cleaning and clear-out in one job
• Ask your employer for the legal day off for a move
• Sort what you won't keep: Mopper removes, donates and recycles the rest (clear-out)
• Notify schools, daycare and employer of your new address

Address changes not to forget

• Residents' registry of your old and new municipality
• Swiss Post: mail forwarding order
• Bank, employer and compensation fund
• Insurance: health, liability and household (adjust contents cover)
• Utilities: electricity, water, gas
• Internet, phone (Swisscom) and TV/radio fee (Serafe)
• Doctor, dentist, subscriptions and vehicle office (licence)

2 weeks before: prepare and pack

• Gather packing materials — Mopper provides sturdy boxes on request
• Pack non-essentials (books, dishes, clothes) and label each box by destination room
• Tell neighbours and the caretaker the date (noise, lift use)
• Reserve a spot for the truck at both addresses (caretaker or municipality)
• Furniture dismantling: let the Mopper team handle it, or bag and label screws and small parts
• Small repairs (holes, joints): Mopper can handle them before the handover

The final days

• Empty and defrost the fridge and freezer
• Set aside valuables, documents and keys to carry yourself
• Protect floors and access ways — included in the Mopper service
• Water and tie up plants (protect from frost in winter)
• Prepare an "essentials" box (papers, chargers, first-aid, tools)

The big day

• Wear closed shoes and suitable clothing
• Keep access ways and the truck parking spot clear
• Point out fragile or dangerous items to the team
• Read the meters (electricity, water, gas) of the old home
• Do the exit inspection with the agency, then hand over all labelled keys
• Post a layout plan: Mopper places furniture in the right rooms

After the move

• Read the meters of the new home
• Report any damage in writing within 48 h (to Mopper for transport, to the agency for the home)
• Place furniture a few centimetres from the walls for air flow
• Register with the residents' registry within the legal deadline
